Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Just after 4:00am on February 4th, while most of us were still sleeping, we moved into Bing Wu, the beginning of the Fire Horse year, in the Chinese Solar calendar. We left behind Yi Si, the Wood Snake, shed that which no longer serves us, and stepped onto the foundations we have been building for the last twelve months.
The official day of celebration, February 17th, is based on the Lunar calendar, and is not only Fire in name, but Fire in nature. This Fire Horse is also falling on a Yang Fire year, which means that we will be radically and rapidly changing, creating, innovating, and transforming. This is the year of actioning the plans you started making in the Year of the Snake. It is the best time to stand up and be unashamedly bold in the person you are becoming.
The last time there was a double Fire year was in 1966. Throughout that year, the world witnessed cultural and political revolutions, technological advances and exploration, meetings of minds, and the breakdown of barriers. There were many beautiful first moments, and far too many horrific last moments. It was a year that gave birth to a multitude of influential people who are still shining their brightness on the world today, and artists of that time cemented their legacies, with achievements that are still recognized today. All this is to say that we are in for a remarkable year. 2026 is unlikely to be dull or uneventful, and we are fortunate to witness — and participate in — the history unfolding over the next twelve months.
As Fire is bright, so are the ideas that will lead to your future endeavours. The energy this year will be passionate, inspiring, confident, and emotional. And like a fire roaring through a forest, connections with others will ignite seemingly spontaneously, and the changes that happen this year will feel like they happen instantaneously. As with all things Yin Yang, there needs to be balance, and so we must be aware of having our tempers flaring up, being more erratic and impulsive, and letting our egos get in the way. Fire is most definitely bright, but it can also burn, so stay mindful.
The nature of a horse is rapid forward movement, along with its ability to carry heavy loads. And yet for all its movement and power, it is patient, enduring, and tolerant, and is grounded with all four feet on the earth. This is a year for action and growth. This is also the moment to talk about balance, and to remind everyone that it is imperative to take time out for gentleness and reflection. Restoration might look like a replenishing practice like yin yoga, or Qi Gong, or you may spend more time meditating in between all the doing. However you choose to replenish your Yin, listen closely to your body, mind, and spirit, and take time to breathe. Not only will pausing allow you to avoid burnout in this double Fire year, it will also clear the path for more insight and focus.
On a physical level this year influences our Heart, Small Intestine, sleep, mood, and emotions. For some of us, this will bring out more of the positive aspects of a Double Fire Horse year – the drive, the passion, the ability to keep up with everything going on around them. For others, they will feel the fatigue that comes when so much energy is consumed from the "go-go-go" that they get caught up in. Planet-wide influences will shadow those of our physical path, but will also manifest on a more literal level. There is the chance that there will be more fires seen world-wide, there is also a chance of more flooding. The risk of flooding comes from another system of charts called Flying Star Feng Shui. This year, when we entered into our Solar calendar on the 4th, we also entered with the 1-Water Star. With this star we get a more yin aspect, which will help subdue some of the intensity of the yang of the Fire, but it can also overflow, hence risk of unchecked water. So, as we say goodbye to the last traces of the Wood Snake and 2025, we take from it a lesson in preparation, strategy, and introspection. We shed not only our old thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, but also any hesitancy and “clutter” that we are still clinging to. The gifts the Snake gave us are clarity, better systems, discernment, stronger emotional intelligence, and foundations for growth. We now get to step forth into the brightness of 2026 and the year of the Fire Horse, and use our new found determination and passion to build the future that we all deserve.
